As its name suggests, the Union app enables photographers to blend two images into one. Users have the tools and ability to either blend the two frames in different styles to create surreal artwork, or use the removal features to cut out and place part of one shot on top of the other. The app is relatively easy to master, as users are led through the process in straightforward steps. Anyone with a basic understanding of cutting out images in editing suites won’t have any trouble here.
That said, the tools’ precision is still rather primitive and it can take a long time to work around finer or more complex details such as hair; even the real-time Magic Wand can be a bit hit and miss in this situation. What’s more, users are unable to change the size of the Erase tool; instead you must zoom in closer and thus the tool becomes proportionally more suitable. This procedure can be a little fiddly on the iPhone and as such, the app is perhaps more suitable for the iPad.
Despite its handful of small flaws, the app is a terrific boon for anyone who likes to get creative with their shots. Ultimately with a little more tweaking from the developer, this app has the potential to remove the need for programs such as Photoshop altogether. •iPhone+ | iOS 7.0 | £1.49/$1.99 | v1.0.2 http://bit.ly/unionios
