Blizzard Entertainment has finally brought the World of Warcraft to iPad, but not as you might have expected. Whereas the online game involves exploring a sprawling fantasy virtual reality, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a card game. However, don’t mistake Hearthstone for a lazy tie-in; not only is it fun to play, it has real replay value.
It’s easy enough to pick up the rules: you play one-on-one, with the goal of wiping out the other’s health bar. Cards can be used to attack your opponent or defend your own health. With minion cards, spell cards and your character’s own hero powers to consider, each game is different, keeping it fresh and challenging you to develop new strategies.
As well as playing against the computer in single player mode, you can play online or over local Wi-Fi with friends. It is a free-to-play game with in-app purchases to buy Expert Packs, however after 12 hours of rigorous game-play we didn’t feel obligated to buy anything. ABOVE Cards take the forms of minions and spells, each with their own skill levels Intuitive controls and a gradual learning curve make Hearthstone ideal for mobile. •iPad | iOS 5.0 | Free | v1.0.5361 www.bit.ly/hearthstoneios
